Madeira is famous around the globe for its beautiful wine, but the Portuguese archipelago is also one of the most beautiful vacation spots in the world.
And the best time to visit is during the Feast of Nossa Senhora do Monte on August 14th and 15th.
Celebrated primarily in the picturesque town of Funchal, the feast remembers the deliverance of the people of the town from hunger and plague.
On the days of the festival, the celebrations last around the clock, with celebrants eating and drinking copious amounts.
Madeiran delicacies are some of the best to be found in Portugal and visitors will not want to miss this opportunity to take advantage.
The feast also features a more solemn procession to the church to pray and give thanks.
Tourists come from all over Europe to Madeira, with March and April being the most popular months.
Funchal is also the birthplace of the famous Portuguese footballer Christiano Ronaldo.
