16 07 2007

Cyprus is a hive of activity in August with a month of village festivals taking place in the country.

According to Whatsonwhen, many villages will host drinking, eating and live music festivals which are likely to be the delight of any passing tourist. The annual event is a chance for each different village to hold their own interpretation of summer celebrations.

Visitors to the region are advised to check dates but villages involved in the celebrations are those in the Southern Marathasa region as well as Laneia, Lofou, Agious Georgios, Agios Therapon, Monagri, Alon, Agros, Vouni, Kalopanagiotis, Pervolia, Pano Palemidia and Lefkara.

The end of August will see the Limassol Wine Festival provide a wealth of traditional costume and entertainment.

Held at the Municipal Gardens and a longstanding tradition in Cyprus, the event attracts 15,000 visitors each evening who can sample many different Cypriote wines free of charge. It has been reported that wine has been produced in the region for over 4,000 years.
