Kite-flying will be the order of the day next month in the Red Sea region when El Gouna hosts a kite-flying jamboree.
El Gouna, in Egypt, is a self-contained town on the Red Sea coast. Comprising of ten kilometres of beach, there is much scope for a competition of this kind.
Scheduled to take place from April 18th until April 27th 2008, the event is likely to be one of the biggest festivals taking place in the Red Sea region for both "kite-boarders" and those who simply enjoy to watch.
Among the various activities planned for the week are exhibitions of equipment, kite-flying competitions for professionals and amateurs alike.
According to El Gouna, these are "designed so everyone has a chance of winning and where spectators help the professionals with the judging process".
There will also be photographic and video competitions for spectators who watch the events along with free introductory sessions for those new to kite-flying.
