The Marrakech Marathon, though particularly gruelling, has become a popular event which brings in thousands of runners from around the globe.
To take place in January, the marathon is expected to bring in over 5,000 runners this time.
Boasting a breathtakingly beautiful course, the marathon is one of the fastest run events of its kind in the world.
It follows the majestic palm-lined streets of Marrakech and runs past the luscious Menara Gardens, where orange and olive trees grow in abundance. The course then runs up past the ramparts of Medina, one of Marrakech's most famous sites.
While in Marrakech, widely considered to be Morrocco's most beautiful city, visitors should not miss seeing the Casbah mosque or the Zaouia of Sidi Youssef Ben Ali.
The Djemaa el Fna square is also worth a visit, if only for the bountiful food available in the square.
Overall, whether one goes there to run or just to lap up the exotic atmosphere, Marrakech is one of the most worthwhile destinations out there.
