2008 News Archive - Holidays - Get your boil in the bag

02 11 2007

Visitors to the beautiful Domincan Republic may occasionally say the weather is boiling, but the meteorological conditions are nothing compared to the steamy heat generated by the remarkable Boiling Lake.

A year-round attraction, the lake is a bubbling, grey-blue stretch of water in a mountainous area of the country, which is best reached with the help of a local guide.

This steamy geothermal wonder can be marvelled at by all those who don't mind getting a little bit wet and muddy on the trail, which encompasses some outstanding and lush scenery.

Adding to the wonder and mystery are a number of other thermal springs and vents, with all kinds of substances steaming up from the ground.

The trek makes for a fascinating addition to the enjoyment of a trip to Dominica, which offers beautiful beaches and azure Caribbean waters in a tropical getaway from the cold and wet of a British winter.
