2008 News Archive - Holidays - Gladiator theme park to hit Italy

20 08 2008

Tourists taking holidays to the historic destination of Rome in Italy may soon be able to enjoy a theme park celebrating the city.

Mauro Cutrufo, the deputy mayor of Rome, has confirmed that there are plans to construct a special attraction that will rival Euro Disney.

Although, the exact location of the park has yet to be decided, the development will need a site of some 400-500 hectares.

Italy's authorities hope that the theme park could play a key role in encouraging even more people to take their annual summer holidays to the capital city as well as offering great family entertainment.

Expected rides could be based around gladiator battles within a replica of the famous Colosseum.

"You would relive scenes from the Colosseum, from ancient Rome, gladiators or maybe Julius Caesar or other things," a Rome city official said.

Until the theme park is a reality, the Renaissance city has plenty to attract holidaymakers including great buildings, wonderful food and favourable weather.
