Keen golfers holidaying in Portugal this July will be in for a treat as the Ladies Open de Portugal began yesterday.
Taking place at the Gramacho Pestana Golf Resort near Carvoeiro in the Algarve, the only women's professional golf tour in Portugal promises the winner 200,000 (£135,299).
Sweden's Louise Stahle shares an early lead after the second round of play and is enjoying the experience. "We're having a lot of fun so it's hard to beat," she remarked.
Tourists visiting the Algarve area of Portugal will also be able to experience a feast of entertainment during the Moorish Nights festival.
A celebration of Arabic culture, which was prominent in the region throughout the tenth to 13th centuries, Moorish Nights is an annual event held in the village of Cacela Velha.
Portugal has a rich cultural history with Suevians, Celts, Visigoths and Romans as well as Arabs influencing the country at different times throughout its history. The Moorish culture is still evident in the architecture of the region.
