31 05 2007
As summer rolls onwards, most will be looking to visit some kind of festival, be it musical, cultural, artistic or more.
Crete's own Chania Summer Festival should definitely be on one's list of destinations to hit, as there are few events that embody the freedom and fun of the world's favourite season more.
Visitors will benefit from ballet performances, Cretan dancing, traditional music, concerts, chess tournaments and Shakespeare exhibitions.
As well as the festival, Crete itself offers dozens of other attractions, including the Minoan sites of Knossos and Phaistos.
Also, the famous site of Gortys and the Venetian castle in Rethymno should not be missed.
Neither should the Samaria Gorge, one of the most beautiful natural sites on the island.
And of course Crete boasts some of the most spectacular and unspoiled beaches in Europe.
Luxury hotels, rentable apartments, bungalows and villas all abound on Crete, just waiting to be filled by the year-round influx of tourists that visit this stunning island.
