2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holidaymakers spend 'thousands' in a lifetime

26 08 2008

The average Briton spends around £40,000 on holiday accommodation over the course of a lifetime, according to new research.

In a study carried out by timeshare specialist RCI, it also emerged that a majority of us spend over 840 days of our lives on holiday and take at least two trips annually.

Broadcaster and travel expert Simon Calder said that everyone wanted a holiday to look forward to, but suggested that in the current economic climate holidaymakers may start to cut back on the number of short breaks they take and opt for traditional week-long beach holidays instead.

"Let's face it, cheap flights have made us positively promiscuous when it comes to going abroad. It looks as though we may be re-focussing on a solid week or two away," he commented.

In other news, research carried out last week by moneysupermarket.com revealed that one-in-ten holiday romances end in marriage, with some of Europe's most romantic destinations including Majorca and Tenerife.
