2008 News Archive - Holidays - Horse-lovers flock to Spain in May

25 04 2007

The Jerez Horse Fair is the most prestigious equine event in Europe and perhaps the world.

Taking place from May 6th to the 13th, the fair always draws throngs of visitors to witness the stunning horse shows, flamenco dancing and bullfights.

Jerez is also known for producing what is widely regarded as the best sherry in the world, so if you make it there be sure to have a taste.

Spanish horses are renowned for their quality and horse aficionados and laymen alike will be stunned by the Andalusian thoroughbreds and the Arab and Anglo-Arab equine varieties.

Showjumping, vaulting and the doma vaquera and doma classica - the cowboy and classical dressage events - are at the forefront of these displays.

But the highlight of the fair is the Como Bailan Los Caballos Andaluces show, which is performed by the famous Real Escuela de Arte Ecuestra (Royal School of Equestrian Art).

The event consists of an intricate equestrian ballet, the likes of which is seldom seen anywhere else in the world.
