Tourists visiting the Mediterranean country of Italy - famed for sizzling sunshine, sumptuous feats and a wealth of historical monuments - will find their holiday quite literally goes off with a bang this August.

The World Fireworks Championship is to be held in the European country from the August 15th to 26th, promising spectators explosive and jaw-dropping entertainment and undoubtedly a perfect picture taking event, Whatsonwhen notes.

Lake Orta will provide a stunning backdrop to the pyrotechnic skills of firework manufacturers from all around the globe - bonfire night will never be the same again it seems, as 100,000 people are estimated to watch the visual extravagance the event should present.

The fireworks will be launched from two piers so that spectators can expect a good view from any position, allowing relaxed holidaymakers to wander down to the lakeside at their leisure.

Lake Orta lies in the north of the country, west of Lake Maggiore.
