While Italy certainly does not need any more compelling reasons to visit, the FotoGraphia, to take place in April, certainly provides one.

One of the largest celebrations of photography in the world, FotoGraphia will take over Rome's galleries, museums, piazzas, sidewalks and alleys.

Even the brand new, majestic Ara Pacis Museum will play host to some of the deluge of captivating pictures.

This year's theme is entitled The Italian Issue and takes the form of an thorough investigation into modern photography in Italy.

There will be over 100 exhibitions, films, readings and meetings spread around the city, providing the perfect holiday for photography buffs.

Moreover, this year's event will mark the debut of the Baume & Mercier First International Award, from which the lucky winner will earn a commission.

The competition is open to absolutely all photographers, regardless of nationality, age and so forth.

And of course Rome itself, with its 2.8 million vivacious inhabitants, is the perfect host city for those who appreciate not only photography, but cuisine, culture, and history as well.
