Rome has been named as one of the top ten travel destinations for 2008, according to recently published survey results.
The Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates 2008 Travel Trends Survey showed that the capital of Italy made fourth place in the category of top ten international holiday destinations.
Other destinations which made the top ten included Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
Cancun, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos in Mexico placed in second, third, sixth and tenth place while the Dominican Republic's Punta Cana featured in ninth.
Cancun is a popular spot for honeymooners and is famous for its watersports activities and beaches.
"This year, more than ever, we're seeing some exciting shifts in the travel patterns of our clients. Obviously consumers are still finding value in travelling to Europe, whether it's a Mediterranean cruise, various Italian cities or even ... Paris," Roger E Block, executive vice-president of the Carlson Wagonlit Travel associate division observed.
