2008 News Archive - Holidays - Light, sound and water show in Dubai

07 07 2008

A new giant fountain, anticipated to attract more than ten million tourists per year, is to be built in Dubai.

Emaar Properties is to construct the fountain installation, which will be able to shoot water over 150 metres into the air and to a length of more than 275 metres.

Costing roughly $218 million, the 22,000-gallon fountains will include an light and sound show featuring 6,600 lights and 50 colour projectors.

Debuting in 2009, the as yet unnamed fountains are expected to become a major Dubai tourist attraction.

The project will also be 25 per cent larger than the notable Bellagio Hotel fountains in Las Vegas.

The Bellagio Hotel fountains were featured in a memorable scene at the end of casino heist action adventure Ocean's 11 starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
