Mexico has been redeveloped into a high-class destination for overseas travellers looking for holidays offering opulent surroundings, according to one publication.
Luxury Travel magazine claims that significant government investment in the country's infrastructure is helping to boost Mexico's image as a luxury hotspot, especially with the planning of a number of key projects.
"The Mexican government is obviously highlighting the destination as a luxury destination because they are putting in the infrastructure in terms of hotels and resorts which will be able to cater for those particular areas," said Alyson Cook, editor of Luxury Travel magazine.
She added that the country is hoping to appeal largely to the "luxury travel market" with even the most popular resorts such as Cancun attracting holidaymakers who are looking for a "top-end travel" experience.
