With their marriage currently the subject of intense public scrutiny, Madonna and Guy Ritchie have apparently decided to take a relaxing holiday in the Maldives.
The News of the World reports that the Maldives vacation is intended to allow the whole family to enjoy some quality time together, with ten-year-old Lourdes, six-year-old Rocco and baby David all jetting off to the Indian Ocean too.
The Republic of Maldives is in fact an island nation made up of 26 atolls. These atolls include more than 1,190 coral islands and approximately 200 of these are inhabited.
Recent figures indicate that there are nearly 90 tourist resorts in the Maldives and 467,154 holidaymakers enjoyed the facilities in 2000.
Many of these will have chosen the destination for its sumptuous beaches and inviting lagoons as well as the tropical climate. The Maldives is also famed for the Local Market on the northern waterfront which offers a range of produce from the various atolls.
Diving is the main attraction for others and it is not uncommon to spot whale sharks and manta rays when exploring the waters.
Luxury spa resorts are also becoming popular and in November the Maldives was named Spa Capital of the Year at the Baccarat AsiaSpa Awards 2006.
With so much on offer, it is little wonder that the Maldives is increasingly becoming the holiday location of choice for the rich and the famous.
