2008 News Archive - Holidays - Maldives 'retains its honeymoon appeal'

07 03 2008

The Maldives remains one of the most popular places to visit on a honeymoon, despite other exotic destinations becoming increasingly accessible, one expert has claimed.

Francesca Moore of wedding and honeymoon planning service hitched.co.uk said that the majority of people booking honeymoon breaks are attracted to hot and faraway destinations - and the Maldives is still number one.

"The Maldives is always a popular choice, with its white sandy beaches and crystal blue sea," she explained.

Ms Moore continued that distant islands such as the Maldives have a "feel of tranquility" as well as that all-important "romance factor".

She added that twin-centre holidays are also growing in popularity, whereby couples stop at two destinations, such as Bangkok and Vietnam, while the US and Australia also offer alternatives.

The comments come after last year's naming of St Lucia as the world's leading honeymoon destination at the World Travel Awards.
