2008 News Archive - Holidays - Maldives take top prize

06 11 2008

The Maldives have won the coveted title of best island destination in the 2008 Conde Nast travel awards.

Conde Nast Traveller magazine describes the worthy winner as "a tropical paradise of pristine beaches, turquoise lagoons and swaying palm trees", which could be the perfect place for a romantic honeymoon hideaway.

The prestigious award is voted for by the readers of Conde Nast Traveller magazine, who rank destinations according to various criteria including beaches, scenery and food/restaurants.

In the overall poll the Maldives came out top but they were recommended particularly for their world-beating beaches.

Conde Nast magazine said the Maldives are also "a mecca for scuba divers who come for the stunning coral reefs and abundant marine life".

Scuba diving and snorkeling are possibly the perfect activities for newlyweds hoping for some time away together.

Conde Nast's awards are particularly significant because they are based on the world's largest independent poll of visitors travel preferences.
