It is the second day of the new year and already Britons are scrabbling to book their 2008 overseas holidays, it has been reported.
According to Sainsbury's Bank, roughly 12 million Brits intend to book an overseas sojourn before the end of February.
Furthermore, the financial services provider reports that this booking frenzy began over the Christmas 2007 period.
"It's a great time of year for planning ahead and booking a trip early as there are usually many bargains to be had," commented Steve Johnson, head of Sainsbury's travel insurance - who added that holiday cover should not be neglected in the rush to book a summer break.
The Association of British Travel Agents recently predicted that 2008 would be a "great" year in which to travel.
According to research from the bank, 23 per cent of early-season bookers bagged their break in the week directly following Christmas.
Londoners and northerners are the regional groups most eager to book a holiday early in the new year, the study suggests.
