30 08 2007

As swapping nuptials abroad may be becoming more popular, some couple may find they are spoilt for choice with exotic wedding destinations.

However, one expert recommends the beautiful islands of Mauritius as a prime location celebrate the special bond of marriage.

Spokesperson for WeddingsAbroad.com Ron Cropper commented that when it comes to tying the knot in a foreign country "Mauritius is the most popular spot".

Cyprus is also all the rage with couples, he stated - perhaps as it is closer to home for those who are wary of travelling to far away from Blighty.

Mr Cropper also remarked that hot weather is important for couples hoping to exchange vows on a picturesque beach in an exotic location.

Although many tour operators favour the Caribbean, WeddingsAbroad.com is more cautious, as according to the company, the area is overcrowded with brides and grooms and the hurricane season can be a negative factor.

MaltaMedia recently reported that one in ten couples now choose to get married abroad.
