21 12 2007

Tropical islands such as Mauritius are popular among holidaymakers at this time of year, it has been reported.

According to Holiday Lettings, the island nation will also be a popular holiday spot in winter 2008.

In its predictions for popular holiday spots in 2008, the company added that the Canary Islands are also a favoured destination during this season - attracting three times as many travel requests in December than in the summer months of July and August.

"Travelling is always an inspiring way of spending our free time and with so many exciting events and enticing destinations, our enthusiasm for overseas holidays in 2008 remains high," Justin Fleming, president of the Association of British Travel Agents recently commented.

Mauritius is an island situated off the coast of Africa to the east of Madagascar and is described by its official website as an "oasis of peace and tranquillity".
