The Mediterranean is the top destinations for Brits buying holiday homes, according to Holidaylettings.co.uk.
Spain is still the most attractive location for those looking for a home in the sun, with France, Italy, Portugal and Cyprus not far behind. The research also lists new countries emerging in the holiday homes market, confirming the growing popularity of Croatia and Mexico for Brits abroad.
Ross Elder, managing director of Holidaylettings.co.uk, states that properties in western Europe are still an attractive investment but warns when purchasing in emerging markets it is essential that there are affordable flights available to draw tourists in.
"More people look to the Internet to find a holiday bargain, there is a mix of family favourite destinations and an increasing bravery to explore new locations such as Egypt," he adds.
The nation's growing obsession with foreign property is being matched by the rush to escape the gloomy British weather. Teletext Holidays recently revealed a surge in holiday bookings during a particularly damp June.
