Mexico is one of the top 20 winter sun destinations, according to the Sunday Times.
The Mayan Riviera, south of Cancun, made the list compiled by Chris Haslam, the Sunday Times travel writer.
Mr Haslam praised the area for its "sugar-soft sands, sparkiling turquoise seas and jungle fringed beaches" and recommended it as one of the world's best spots an idyllic winter sun getaway.
The Sunday Times recommended a winter beach holiday as the perfect antidote to the dissatisfactions caused by the combination of the credit crunch and the wet UK summer.
Mr Haslam said: "What you need is a double dose of full-fat, supersaturated satisfaction, and we know exactly where you'll find it."
Situated in the tropics, most of Mexico enjoys sunny weather all year round and the temperatures on the Yucatan Peninsula reach average highs of 28 degrees C in December, according to the BBC.
