2008 News Archive - Holidays - More Brits 'take last minute holidays'

07 09 2007

More Brits are leaving booking their holidays up until the last minute so that they can take advantage of the best deals.

According to Sainsbury's, 8.8 million people in the UK have taken advantage of last minute deals.

Head of travel insurance at Sainsbury's Bank Steve Johnson comments that there are bargains around in the travel industry, which consumers could snap up.

"Greater use of the internet and growing competition in the travel industry means that there are many holiday bargains to be had," he remarks.

Holidaymakers must remember to get travel insurance however, as problems can occur when abroad, he adds.

Inhabitants of London are the most likely to leave booking a holiday until the last minute, with those in the south-east closely behind.

This research follows news that many Brits are heading abroad to get hitched. Comments made by Ron Cropper of WeddingsAbroad.com indicated that tying the knot in an exotic location can save couples money.
