13 11 2008

One of the UK's leading architects has praised the beauty of the holiday town of Rabat in Morocco, saying it is "very beautiful."

Speaking at an architects' conference in Liverpool, Peter Sheard, senior associate at the respected architectural firm Gensler, said Rabat was excellent for fishing and walking and the landscape had "a certain beauty about it".

Mr Sheard also praised Rabat for its parks and open green spaces as well as touching on the rich history of Morocco.

He said: "Morocco has been associated with trading and history for a long time but it is popular for walking activities and fishing and it is something that remains popular within Rabat to this day."

Morocco, with its mix of idyllic beaches, rugged mountains and wide open deserts has become increasingly popular as a tourist destination in recent years.

According to the Ministry of Tourism over seven million tourists visited the country last year, an increase of 13 per cent on the previous year.
