2008 News Archive - Holidays - Music festival to rock Essaouira
11 05 2007
Every year sees the Essaouira Gnauoua and World Music Festival come to the sun-gilded northern African nation of Morocco - and this year is no different.
The music of the Gnaouas is a dark, eery, yet oddly pleasing genre, which is a product of a tradition with roots as far away as Haiti and Brazil.
Artists from all over the world will flock to this festival and there is no better place to be while listening to Gnaouas, than Essaouira, the picturesque Atlantic coast port.
Formerly known as Mogador, Essaouira has been discovered by Europe's tourists and is now a favoured destination.
And with an abundance of beaches, sun and of course clear blue sea, why wouldn't it be?
The city is host to a range of small hotels in the traditional style, which are a must for any visitor.
As well as being a cultural centre, Essaouira is also a popular destination for windsurfers.
