2008 News Archive - Holidays - New cultural feature to open in Egypt

13 06 2008

Holidaymakers in Egypt will soon be able to enjoy a new cultural highlight, it has been revealed.

The El Gouna Library was ceremonially opened by First Lady Suzanne Mubarak last month when she unveiled the official plaque and cut the ribbon.

More than an average book repository, the library in El Gouna shares links with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which donated 750 books. Additionally, the library boasts a selection of online resources, digital collections and culturamas.

The culturama, one of six in Egypt, is a media surround system of 180-degrees that deploys projectors to display images on nine flat screens.

This technology was created by the Egyptian Centre for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage and is designed to allow tourists and guests to the library to visit different areas of Egyptian history.
