2008 News Archive - Holidays - New York for New Year?

02 01 2008

Britons may seek sunshine over Christmas, but for New Year's Eve celebrations it is the cities that appeal, it has been reported.

According to a spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), Britons prefer the excitement of a city sojourn over the relaxation proffered by a beach break in terms of turn-of-the-year celebrations.

Sean Tipton of Abta did however note that city breaks are less popular over the Christmas period, when people are more likely to head for a location which promises sure-fire sun or guaranteed snow.

"City breaks are more popular at new year, with people heading off to places that really know how to celebrate," Mr Tipton added.

However, according to BAA Heathrow Airport, the city of New York is a "top destination" for Christmas travel, along with Los Angeles.
