2008 News Archive - Holidays - 'No Heathrow hassle' for Dubai Airport

08 05 2008

Those looking to head to Dubai on package holidays in future should find the airport to be running nice and efficiently, its owners claim.

The hub is currently undergoing a reconstruction that will see a new terminal opening - but authorities have been quick to dampen any fears that there will be a repeat of the scenes at Heathrow's Terminal 5.

No opening date has yet been given for the new $4.5 billion (£2.3 billion) facility, but Dubai Airports chief executive Paul Griffiths believes it is better not to rush.

He told Reuters: "We'll exhaustively be testing the terminal systems throughout the summer. We'll put a few flights in bit by bit, in waves rather than a big bang."

The news follows the announcement that Dubai will be the home of the first Legoland park to ever be built outside of Europe or North America. The park is due to open by the end of 2011.
