16 09 2008
A large section of the seafront zone in the popular Majorca resort of Pollensa has been pedestrianised.
According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, the seafront stretch between calle Elcano and Avenida de Paris is now a car-free zone.
Despite some opposition from local business owners, public buses will be the only vehicles permitted to travel trough the new child-friendly zone.
Officials made the decision last week and signposts marking out the new are expected to be erected over the coming days.
Local authorities are now said to be considering the option of completely lifting some of the seafront road in order to extend the beach area between the Bay of Pollensa and Alcudia.
Situated in the north of Majora, the resort of Pollensa is one of the island's most popular destinations, with visitors attracted by the lush scenery, sandy beaches and good tourist facilities.
