Portugal is a golfing paradise and a prime destination for those looking to take an activity holiday, it has been claimed.
According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito), Portugal is home to some of the world's finest courses and is well-equipped to handle golfing enthusiasts.
A spokesman for the organisation claimed the Algarve was a particular favourite with British golfers and said that the area boasted several high-quality courses.
"The Algarve has one of the densest concentrations of high-quality golf courses in Europe and the area has developed an infrastructure to cater specifically for golfing enthusiasts from dedicated staff handling golfing queries at hotels to shuttle bus services taking guests to courses," he commented.
Portugal last year won the International Association of Golf Tour Operators Award and currently is currently home to 18 of the world's top courses.
Meanwhile, for those looking to enjoy a golfing holiday and soak up some local culture at the same time, Aito suggests a trip to areas such as Estoril and Sintra.
