08 10 2008

The construction of a new resort twice as big as Cancun has been launched by Mexican president Felipe Calderon and is aimed to accommodate three million visitors annually by 2025.

According to the Deutsch-Press Agentur, the location will be on the Sinaloa coast in Teacapan, which is 120 kilometres to the south of Mazatlan next to the Pacific.

Situated in the municipality of Escuinapa, it will include 12 kilometres of beach and two marinas, generating some $3 billion in income each year.

"This will be the most relevant project boosted by the public sector, the most important in the last 25 years and the most important in the first two decades of the 21st century," said President Calderon.

Temperatures in Mazatlan reach an average of about 88 to 95F (35C) in September and can drop to approximately 67F in January, according to All About Mazatlan.
