2008 News Archive - Holidays - Romantics favour traditional breaks

11 01 2008

Couples travelling overseas next month to celebrate Valentine's Day prefer to go on breaks to traditional destinations, it has been reported.

According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), city breaks are "old favourites" among romantic pairings.

Nonetheless, further-flung destinations are gaining in popularity among holidaymakers who wish to try somewhere "off the beaten track".

"You still have very much the old favourites, such as Paris, Rome and Venice, and for most people they are very much at the top of the list. But other European destinations are definitely coming up stream," a spokesperson from AITO commented.

A YouGov survey taken in February 2006 found that Paris was the most popular Valentine's Day destination among UK residents, followed by Barcelona in third and Venice.
