2008 News Archive - Holidays - Royalty arrives in Portugal

27 05 2008

Norwegian royalty have arrived in Portugal, enjoying some of the country's finest luxuries.

King Harald and Queen Sonja began their three-day visit in the city of Cascais, a tourist hotspot for those looking to get away from it all.

Arriving in the royal yacht, Norge, the couple were welcomed by the mayor, Antonio Capucho.

Lying west of the capital Lisbon, Cascais is now a thriving suburb and its surrounding beaches, large yacht harbour and historic ruins, makes it a popular spot.

Indeed, the harbour even helped Cascais scoop the honour of hosting sailing's ISAF World Championship in 2007, which included the dinghies and racing yachts categories.

For the more adventurous, the Portuguese city also offers bullfighting – at the historic Praca de Touros, where up to 8,000 spectators can crowd in to a site which has seen hundreds of years of action.
