15 04 2008

This summer, Majorca is to host the Sa Mostra International Folklore Festival.

According to organisers, the event was founded by the Aires Sollerics and has worked to unite folklore groups annually in Majorca in the summer month of July since 1980.

Lasting for a week, between July 21st and 26th 2008, groups from all over the world gather for a selection of events and exchanges.

Main events include public performances offered by the attending groups and sessions of cultural interchange.

Claiming to be a "popular and internationally renowned event", the Sa Mostra International Folklore Festival has an interesting heritage.

Its founders, the group Aires Sollerics was formed in 1969 with the objective of popularising traditional folk dances.

Aires Sollerics aims to spread local folklore in two ways: By participating in folklore festivals the world over and by encouraging people to become involved in the popularisation of dance.
