15 08 2007

Barcelona is already a hip and happening hotbed of cultural sites, unusual architecture and tasty tapas bars, but in September it will provide visitors with an even more exciting experience.

The Fiesta of La Merce is a contemporary cultural festival that holidaymakers are sure to enjoy, Whatsonwhen reports.

Fire-breathing beasts, dancers, DJs and bands will descend on the Catalan city to present unmissable entertainment. Fireworks will light up the Spanish sky while a train of dragons, devils and eagles parade the streets and wide avenues of the city.

The circus spectacular continues as human pyramids are attempted, most notably in the Old Quarter when the tallest human tower record will be challenged.

During September Catalans also commemorate their national day with patriotic celebrations.

Barcelona is famous for the unusual buildings constructed by Gaudi, with Parc Guell offering visitors colourful and organic structure as well as magnificent views of the cityscape.
