US Open darts champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor is a big fan of holidays in Majorca, after one helped him prepare for defending his title in Connecticut on the weekend.

The player was victorious in the Partypoker.net PDC US Open on Sunday by beating Colin Lloyd 3-0 in the final.

He won £12,500 after dropping only one set in eight matches during the tournament.

In preparation for the championship, Taylor spent time holidaying in Majorca, reports the Sun.

He told the paper he needed to recharge his batteries after the conclusion of the Premier League.

"I managed to find a local bar with a dartboard and I've been practising just the same amount as any day at home," Taylor said.

He also prepared mentally for the championship by walking and swimming every day, as well as shunning the Majorca nightlife in favour of early nights.

Speaking ahead of the US Open, Taylor added: "I've lost loads of weight but I feel fantastic and I'm ready for anyone right now."
