In an historic achievement, an endurance swimmer has become the first person to successfully swim all the way across the Maldives.
Lewis Gordon Pugh travelled over 87 miles to traverse the beautiful set of islands in the Indian Ocean, situated below the southernmost tip of India.
The location is popular with swimmers and scuba divers, as its clear waters, warm weather and endless tiny islands make water-based exploring an absolute must.
"One of the highlights of the swim was swimming along a 50-kilometre reef, which was full of most beautiful and diverse fish I have ever seen. It was like swimming through a tropical rain forest!" Mr Pugh said on his website.
"The expedition was not without drama. Halfway through the event the propeller on my support boat broke. Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea FC, kindly lent me a speed boat to complete the expedition," he added.
There are around 1190 islands in the Maldives, almost all of which boast grand palm trees and pristine white beaches.
