2008 News Archive - Holidays - Tallest ever tower planned for Dubai

07 10 2008

People scared of heights beware while on holiday in Dubia: the Nakheel real estate firm has unveiled plans to build the world’s tallest building in the city this week.

Standing at one kilometre in height, the Nakheel Harbour and Tower will peer over the current tallest building, the Burj Dubai, at 818m in height.

Its eye-catching design is based on famous landmarks across the Islamic region, such as the harbour of Alexandria in Egypt and the bridges of Isfahan in Iran, Dubai real estate firm Nakheel, said.

“There is nothing like it in Dubai,” added Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, chairman of Dubai World.

Building of the tower will be completed in phases but all areas of the building are expected to open in around ten year’s time.

When complete, the tower will have 200 floors, 150 lifts, 3,500 hotel rooms, 10,000 parking spaces and be home to 55,000 people and 45,000 workers.
