2008 News Archive - Holidays - Taste the truffles of Italy

10 10 2007

Visitors to Italy often enjoy the idyllic surroundings, beautiful people, cutting-edge fashion and sumptuous Mediterranean cuisine, and food lovers are in for an extra special treat this winter if they head to the Tuscan hills.

San Miniato is a town famed for its truffles, which should delight those with a sweet tooth.

Well worth a visit, the community holds its annual White Truffle Festival during the last three weeks of November.

Claiming to be one of the most fruitful areas in Europe to produce the delicacy, visitors to the region would be advised to arrive armed with an empty stomach and taste buds waiting to be tickled.

Of course eating delicious truffles is thirsty work, so it is handy that the region also produces a perfect accompaniment of sweet raisin wine, named vinsanto.

While on holiday, travellers may want to indulge further by sampling the famous Sigaro Toscano, or Tuscan Cigar.

Florence, also located in Tuscany, is a city with beautiful architecture and often considered the birthplace of Italian Renaissance.
