2008 News Archive - Holidays - Tenerife holidays popular with sun-seeking Scots

06 01 2009

Scottish people have voted with their feet to make Tenerife one of the most popular holiday destinations of last year, according to the BBC.

The UK airport operator, BAA, released figures which showed that Tenerife airport was one of the top ten destination airports for Scottish people in 2008, despite the fact that it is not a major hub or business destination.

According to BAA's figures over 1.2 million Scots flew to Spain overall last year, with many of them choosing to visit the sun-soaked island of Tenerife for a holiday.

Donald Morrison, a spokesman for BAA Scotland, told the BBC: "It seems that Spain is as popular now with Scots as it has ever been."

Figures released recently by the flight search website Skyscanner.com suggested that the trend may be set to continue in 2009.

The site revealed that Tenerife is among the top ten most searched for destinations among UK travellers for 2009.
