2008 News Archive - Holidays - Testing times in Sri Lanka

29 10 2007

Cricket fans have a second chance to see the England team touring the beautiful island of Sri Lanka this year when the two sides meet for a series of three Test matches in December 2007.

Following their victory in the one-day series in October, the tourists will hope to repeat the success in the longer game.

The first Test will be played at Kandy, which is also famous for its lake, the Buddhist Temple of the Tooth and the nearby Pinnewala Elephant orphanage, while the second is held in the capital Colombo.

Most poignantly, the third will take place at Galle, where the ground stands next to the huge 17th century Dutch fort and is being extensively rebuilt after being wrecked by the 2004 tsunami.

Galle is also close to a number of coastal beach resorts such as Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa.

Visitors will also be able to experience a wide variety of culture and cuisine at very inexpensive prices.
