2008 News Archive - Holidays - The Algarve is 'popular holiday destination'

09 07 2008

The Algarve is growing in popularity as a favourite holiday destination for Britons, new research has revealed.

In a study undertaken by the Co-op, the Algarve features at number five in the top ten list of foreign holiday destinations as favoured by UK consumers.

Nearby Spain also makes the top ten, with the destinations of Majorca, Tenerife and the Costa Blanca accounting for positions two, seven and eight respectively.

Although not managing to clinch the top spot in the Co-op survey, according to the Association for British Travel Agents, Spanish holidays still reign supreme in the hearts of Britons.

"Spain is still by far the most popular destination because even with a strengthening euro it still offers extremely good value and there is a very strong loyalty factor to the country," a spokesperson told the Herald.

In the survey, Dalaman and Bodrum in Turkey placed in first and fourth place, reflecting the rise in popularity of non-eurozone holiday destinations.
