Losing luggage in advance of a dream holiday can be hugely distressing and inconvenient, but a new report insists there are a number of steps that can be taken to reduce the risk.
The first tip from American Express is that it is advisable to tag your luggage on the inside as well as on the outside. If your bag is misplaced and the external tag has been inadvertently removed, airline and airport employees will find it much easier to locate you with the help of a tag inside the suitcase.
American Express has also called on passengers to take photographs of their luggage, as this puts you in a much stronger position if you are trying to describe the bag to a befuddled airport official.
A final suggestion is to ship the luggage directly to the destination - an option that also eliminates the possibility of becoming stuck in a lengthy queue.
Many passengers will have experienced first-hand the frustrations of losing baggage when British Airways ended up with a backlog of thousands of cases over the Christmas period.
While losing a suitcase is still highly unlikely, it is clearly sensible to pack some necessities within hand luggage to get you through any difficult days.
