2008 News Archive - Holidays - Tourism is growing fast in Montenegro

13 11 2008

Recently published statistics reveal that the small Mediterranean state of Montenegro is one of the world's fastest growing tourist destinations - second only to China.

Although the state was only founded in 2006, figures published by the World Travel and Tourism Council show that the Montenegro tourism market is growing by 20 per cent year on year.

Sasha Radovic, director of tourism at the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, said that his organisation was working with various international hotel groups.

It was announced recently that Aman Resorts had signed a 30-year lease to manage hotels in some of the country's most prestigious tourist destinations and Four Seasons also have plans to build a resort in the country.

Mr Radovic said: "Montenegro is committed to growth and to maximising high-quality investment in ways which are socially, environmentally and economically sustainable for the long-term."

Montenegro boasts 293 kilometres of Mediterranean coastline, which includes the 13- kilometre long Velika plaza, which means long beach.
