13 12 2007

Portugal's Algarve coast is to benefit from new four and five star developments after plans were approved in Silves Camara, it has been reported.

According to the Portugal Resident, the developments will increase the region's tourism capacity by 7,000 beds.

Plans include for three luxury hotels to be built in Praia Grande containing 3,997 beds while two golf courses are also to be developed.

Projects in Atalaia, Quinta do Pateiro and Quinta do Paco are also planned with 1,100 beds to be split between two five star hotels in the latter.

"The new projects represent a revolution in tourism and will bring a breath of fresh air to the economy of the county and the region," Isabel Soares told the Resident.

Situated at the south of Portugal, the Algarve is a popular European holiday destination thanks to its year-round sunshine and golden beaches.
