01 04 2008

According to TurkishPress.com, the Turkish culture and tourism minister Ertugrul Gunay has set a 2023 target in tourism of 50 million visitors from which he hopes to earn a revenue of $50 billion.

Currently Turkey has reported to have received 23.3 million tourists - with ten million visiting Turkey between 2003 and 2007.

Mr Gunay also noted that the rate of rising tourism elsewhere in the world is 6.5 per cent, while in Turkey it remains at 18 per cent in Turkey.

The news comes after Turkish Press also revealed that representatives of Turkey's tourism sector are also targeting Scandinavian tourists following a tourism fair in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Fregata Travel recently reported that eastern European countries like Turkey can be cheaper for Brits to travel to.
