2008 News Archive - Holidays - Turkey is a holiday 'hotspot'

29 09 2008

Britons hoping to jet off to warmer climes this winter should look no further than Turkey, with the country recently overtaking Spain as Britain's top package holiday destination.

Located outside of the eurozone, Turkey offers fantastic value for money, with a bottle of cola typically costing £1, compared to £2.95 in France.

Travel PR specialist Ceyda Pekenc said that although the pound had dropped in strength against the lira over the last year, holidaymakers would still find Turkey "relatively cheap".

Meanwhile, Turkey is an ideal destination for those interested in enjoying a round of golf while on holiday, with the International Association of Golf Tour Operators recently ranking the country ahead of other top golf destinations such as Spain and Scotland.

"This is largely due to the Belek district of Antalya, home to championship golf in Turkey, with golf courses designed by world-famous golfers Colin Montgomerie and Nick Faldo and also of the first pure links course in Turkey, " Ms Pekenc added.

In related news, the Post Office recently announced that sales of Turkish lira have increased by 20 per cent over the last year.
