30 01 2009
A senior UK education official loves Lanzarote so much that she has decided to live on the island while keeping her job in Derbyshire.
Tenerife News reported that Lanzarote proved so attractive to Catherine Simpson that she decided to live there and commute back and forth to her job in the UK.
Ms Simpson makes the 2,186 kilometre commute on a bi-weekly basis and claims that her flights are so cheap that it actually costs her less than commuting from south Wales would.
According to the newspaper, "she pays for her flights, finding it cheaper and quicker than the journey she would have to make between north and south Wales".
Lanzarote has won the hearts of many people from the UK over the years and remains one of the most popular beach holiday destinations throughout the year.
The island, which is the fourth largest in the Canary archipelago, boasts average temperatures of 21 degrees C in January, making it perfect for winter sun breaks.
