2008 News Archive - Holidays - "Unparalleled" Florida returns to form

19 02 2007

Florida, traditionally one of the world's most popular holiday destinations, recorded healthy tourism figures for 2006, as visitors from around the world flocked to enjoy its unique delights.

The Sunshine State welcomed 84.6 million visitors last year, up 1.2 per cent on the official figures for 2005.

VisitFlorida, the state's official source for travel planning, has observed that the industry remains fairly unstable. There is a general agreement, however, that Florida has the natural ingredients needed to remain on top.

"With our pristine beaches, magnificent sunshine, world-class theme parks and unparalleled natural beauty, it's easy to see why Florida is a global tourism leader," said Governor Charlie Crist.

"In addition, Florida has a long tradition of welcoming its visitors with hospitality and warmth, making our great state the natural choice for families and vacationers from around the world."

Aside from its world-renowned beaches, Florida also boasts dozens of sensational golf courses, some of the world's most impressive theme parks, Sea World and, of course, Walt Disney World.
